The
quality of education in Nepal is very low,
formal training and teaching qualifications
are not necessary to teach in schools. Therefore,
over 50% of teachers in Nepal have no or inadequate
training; often the basic level is an SLC
pass (an exam taken at age 16), and this alone
can suffice to become a teacher. Such circumstances
create a situation where high quality education
cannot flourish. Most of the teachers in Nepal
know only a very traditional method of teaching
which comprises of lecturing and memorization,
they do not know how to introduce student
participation to generate a creative and active
learning process.
Without having good quality education, it
is impossible to improve the future generations'
prospects.
Therefore,
VSN Nepal is playing key role towards improving
the quality of education within its working
areas. This volunteer program will place experienced
overseas teacher trainers alongside Nepali
teachers who have little or no previous training.Volunteers
will be supported by one of the few Nepali
teacher trainers who will assist in initial
preparation and be in contact throughout the
stay. With the help of our volunteers we hope
to improve the standard of teaching in Nepal
and begin to create a brighter and more constructive
future for Nepali children
